Digital Badges

From Bold Idea Knowledgebase

Why do we award Badges?

Bold Idea uses a badge award system for several reasons:

  • Badges are a great way for students to receive recognition as well as have a record of all their learning achievements in Bold Idea.
  • They can be used as a portfolio of their work and are a great way to review what they have previously accomplished.
  • Mentors can view a student's badge profile and it helps them to understand what projects the student has already done and what they can expect them to already be familiar with when working on a new programming language or project.
  • Badges are used internally by Bold Idea to track student progress along their learning paths . As a student moves along a learning path, their badges will be a quick and easy way for Bold Idea staff to document what they have completed on the path and what they should do next.

How are Badges Awarded?

Badges are awarded by the student's mentor or team captain when they complete the criteria for a badge.

See Awarding Badges for instructions on how to award badges.

When awarding the badge, mentors can provide feedback or notes about the student and the project. Mentors can also provide a link the student's project.
