3-2-1 Reflections
From Bold Idea Knowledgebase
The 3-2-1 can be a helpful tool for getting students to organize their thoughts, and promote reflection and metacognition. This activity provides an easy way to check for understanding and gauge student interest. It is also an effective way to promote discussion or review material.
During reflection time, students are asked to take a few moments and jot down:
- 3 things I learned or found out
- 2 ways I can use what I learned, or 2 things that are interesting about what I learned
- 1 question or thing I want to learn more about
If time allows, have students share their ideas in pairs or small groups. Use the responses to help guide mentoring decisions. Consider areas of the curriculum that need to be reviewed again or specific concepts or activities that are most interesting for students.
